I miss peanut butter M&Ms, chocolate milk, extra cheddar goldfish, cheddar chex mix, Chik Fil A, Casey’s pizza, and being able to make my own smoothies.
My mom’s food needed a separate category to give it justice: Angel chicken, chicken and wild rice soup, peanut butter cookies with reeses pieces, brownies, friendship bread, and chicken mostacholli are my favorite homemade things that I’m excited to get back to.
I miss my friends from Iowa State and my hometown. I can’t wait to catch up with them and hear about what’s new in their lives while I’ve been out of the country. It takes some effort to stay in touch when you’re so far apart, but I’m sure things will go back to normal once we’re together again.
I’ve never gone this long without seeing my parents or my brother. I sometimes go this long between seeing my extended family, but I miss them too. I’m excited to reunite with my immediate family and share new stories and memories with them. Most people don’t miss their family and friends as much as I do, but that makes me even more grateful for the great relationships I have with them.
There’s nothing wrong with my bed here in Canberra, but there’s nothing like my own bed in my house. I can’t wait to get a great night of sleep after jet lag and not sleeping for an unnatural amount of hours.
I’ve realized during this semester that I have way more clothes and shoes that I need. I brought one big suitcase with me and a backpack, so my wardrobe is a bit limited currently. I think I’ll enjoy being able to wear all my clothes again, and it’ll probably be sweater weather by the time I get home. Time for comfy warm clothes!
Lizzie is her name. She’s an adorable little Westie. She’s fluffy, white, cuddly, a little lame, and pretty much blind, but she’s the sweetest dog out there. I miss snuggling with her and walking her around the neighborhood. Whenever I see a dog, it makes me miss her even more.
I joined Ultimate Frisbee Club in Canberra, and it was fun, but it only lasted about half of the semester. I miss Triathlon Club, Hip Hop Club, Collegiate Women in Business, and the environmental clubs I’m involved in. I can’t wait to get back into the swing of things and have more evening events each week.
Ice skating, going to apple orchards, doing intramural sports, going to youth group, celebrating football season, and hanging out with friends are just some of the many things that I miss doing at home.
Our campus is known as one of the most beautiful in the country, so it’s no surprise that I miss it. While the University of Canberra has its own central campus with a green area, it’s much smaller than ISU. I miss walking farther from class to class and knowing where everything is.
Fall is my favorite season. Right now, it’s fall in Iowa, but it’s spring in Australia. I see commercials about getting your “summer body” ready, so it was weird for me to celebrate Halloween as it’s getting warmer. It also seems like Thanksgiving and Christmas are moving farther away. I miss the apple orchards, pumpkin flavored things, and the beautiful colored leaves as they fall to the ground.
I don’t have to take a bus or walk every time I want to get somewhere. I like to walk, but it’s also nice to have the freedom of a car when you want to go somewhere farther away or when the weather isn’t great.
